Values

  • HARDWORK

Rowing demands some skill, but places a much higher premium on plain hard work and perseverance. Rowers are on a journey, whether they are a middle school sculler hoping to make the eight in a few years, or an experienced rower desiring a seat in that competitive four. This journey is characterized by effort, because once the race starts there are no timeouts and no substitutions. Rowing calls on the limits of human endurance, the special kind of endurance that comes from the mind, heart and body. Our coaches invest in your children and require commitment from both rower and parents. Show up on time, work hard, repeat.

  • TEAMWORK

In rowing, the glory is in the team, not the individual. “No member of a crew is praised for the rugged individuality of his rowing” - Ralph Waldo Emerson. Team members must have a positive attitude during workouts and encourage others to perform to the best of their ability. We are one team, one boat, with one goal: go fast.

  • ACCOUNTABILITY

Life holds us accountable; so do sports. We believe in merit. With a long learning curve, there is room in rowing for continual improvement. Team members must be coachable and willing to make changes as directed by coaches. They must be directly accountable for communication with coaches in regard to any deviations from regularly scheduled practice, concerns, issues, etc. They must take care of themselves outside of practice by getting enough sleep, proper hydration and nutrition. Finally, consistent improvement on the ergometer is required.
